Financing can help with the upfront cost of solar. The most affordable option is usually a green loan or home loan top-up from your bank. Many banks now offer these with low interest rates, making it easier to spread the cost over time while benefiting from lower power bills from day one.
Major banks in New Zealand are now offering very low or even no interest loans to put towards solar and battery storage.
Existing or new home loan customers can borrow up to $80,000 at a fixed rate of 1% per annum for 3 years to purchase a solar system.
Existing or new home loan customers can borrow up to $50,000 interest-free for 5 years to fund a solar power system.
ASB home loan customers can top up their Home Loan, up to $80,000 at a fixed rate of 1% per annum for 3 years to purchase a solar system.
Customers can borrow up to $80,000 at 1% per annum for 3 years to pay for a solar system
Existing or new mortgage customers can add a loan to borrow $5,000 or more for the cost of a solar panel system. Kiwibank will then contribute $2,000 over 4 years towards the cost of repaying the loan.
