Tesla has identified that a small number of Powerwall 2 batteries (about 1% worldwide, sold between November 2020 and June 2022) may not perform as intended due to a batch of battery cells from a third-party supplier.
To put customers first, Tesla has already remotely powered down affected units to make sure they remain safe.
Your solar system continues to operate as normal, but your Powerwall may temporarily show “Low Energy Lockout” in the Tesla App if your unit is affected.
Tesla is replacing all affected Powerwall 2 batteries free of charge.
Most customers will receive a brand-new Tesla Powerwall 3, which offers extra features and improved performance.
Homes with more than one Powerwall 2 may receive a like-for-like replacement to ensure everything works together, though upgrades are sometimes possible.
You don’t need to do anything — Tesla or our team will be in touch to arrange the replacement at a time that suits you.
